It’s the first week of October and we’re finishing getting ready for trusses (check the next post for the full details on that), but first what has been happening the month of September??!! There has been sooo much demo and it’s not 100% done but we have had to get those exterior walls ready for new trusses to be set which means making sure everything is square, level and supported for the weight.
We’ve demo’d…
- interior walls
- interior half bath
- kitchen
- fireplace & wood stove area
- bedrooms
- windows
- insulation – GROSS!!
- some exterior siding
- AND we’ve taken the roof off!
How about some pictures??

We also re-framed the new exterior corners we added to square off the house! All of this had to be done before the trusses could be placed on top. There have been some very long nights and tons of support and help from family during this crazy mad rush to get things ready.

Taking off the roof was a huge chore!! Did you know that under our metal roof was a wooden shingled roof? How about a fun story that my dad shared with me when we were taking the roof off.
Apparently my great grandfather made by hand every single wooden shingle on that roof. Dad said it took him months to chisel and make every one and lay them down as the roof! WHAT? Who does that? Talk about hard work, dedication and not being afraid of physical labor. Welcome to the Banke’s… Yes we kept a portion of it. Not sure what we’ll do with it but i’m a little sentimental at times.
It’s one big mess to start fresh and have a clean slate to move forward.. We’re getting close to the demo finish line to turn the corner to start focusing on NEW!!
