Saturday, Sept 9th, it was all hands on deck! Both Josh and my parents came over to help us not only finish packing but begin demo. It was a whirlwind. We still had stuff in both bedrooms, bathrooms, furniture in house, stuff in the kitchen, we were behind to say the least. But in a matter of a few hours we were 95% moved out and could begin demo.
I knew I still had a few more weeks of using the laundry room and our main bathroom so that was nice to keep those functioning. We still hadn’t gotten floor in the office to even move our dressers out so things were all over the place as we were trying to transition to living in the trailer. I hadn’t even finished setting up the trailer – I didn’t even know where things were yet as I was just giving stuff to my mom to put away and organize out there. It was the true overwhelming sense when you have stuff EVERYWHERE and you feel completely out of control of everything. It was all moving so fast and we just needed to get stuff OUT. It took a few really big deep breathes to get through that day.
Since this is the house my dad grew up in, it’s filled with so many memories and emotions when it comes to starting to demolish walls. It only seemed fitting to create a moment for him and I to take some aggression out together (you’ll see pictures below).
By the end of the day the house already didn’t look the same and we were exhausted! We were blessed to be able to throw some clothes in a bag and go stay the night at Nathan & Dana’s that night and get a good shower! I actually took a bath – we were all so tired and needed a night in a real bed before officially moving into the trailer.
Sunday we were back at it though, I spent more time organizing the trailer and just figuring out where everything was before we started the week. It was Jaz’s first full week of school with classes and I really wanted us to feel a little settled. It’s a huge adjustment for us all but it has been important to me to make sure it’s as comfortable as it can be.
It was a long weekend but we got lots done!
